Psilocybe cubensis
One of the most widely cultivated varieties, believed to have emerged in Florida in the 1980s or 90s. Its release is usually credited to a hobbyist known as Mr. G, though that attribution is anecdotal — typical of strain lore from the pre-internet spore-trading era. It spread during the online mycology boom for adaptability rather than any documented pedigree.
Visually close to Golden Teacher and Ecuador — all large, generalist golden-cap varieties — and the three are commonly mixed up or substituted for one another in conversation and in unverified spore listings.
Deadly species grow in the same places as psilocybin ones and can resemble them closely. Never eat a wild mushroom identified from a website — including this one.
