A highland variety said to derive from wild collections above 1,000 metres in the Ecuadorian Andes, where cool, humid conditions differ sharply from the lowland tropics most cubensis favours. Some accounts credit a mycologist known as BIO with preserving the line around 2000, but the chain of custody from wild collection to cultivated line is not independently documented.

Lookalikes — read this twice

Often confused with Golden Teacher and other golden-cap Latin American lines given overlapping cap colour and size. As with most geographic-name varieties, many Ecuador spore prints in circulation cannot be traced to a verified original collection.

Deadly species grow in the same places as psilocybin ones and can resemble them closely. Never eat a wild mushroom identified from a website — including this one.
